"Highland Romance"
This concert features both tender and passionate songs from the time of the 1745 Jacobite rebellion. The image of the fiercely independent highlander evoked romance and fantasy. This image continues to smolder today with novels like Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander" series fanning the flames.
"Our audience is especially appreciative when performers talk about the music, about their program - it seems to make a connection that gives more understanding."
— Portland Conservatory of Music, Portland, Maine
The late 17th and early 18th centuries were a time of unrest in the Scottish highlands as the clan system dissolved and society changed dramatically. Many songs, poems and stories were written idolizing the lifestyle of highlanders in spite of political disapproval.
"For two days all I have heard is how wonderful your concert was on May 6th!" I have been elated since that evening!"
— Peabody Memorial Library
